More boredom

Laura at her swim lesson.

I baked these Honey Wheat cookies: recipe from Dorie Greenspan. You can really taste the honey in these and they have wheat germ. Pretty yummy. I saw them on this blog.

I've had this cute little lollipop for a couple of months and every time Laura saw it, she would ask if she could have it. I finally said yes. It is not too sweet and has a subtle grape flavor. This made her very happy.

After her swim lesson, she had some fun playing with Play doh.

She made a mermaid.

She took this photo.

February vacation week

Laura was in Florida with her dad most of the week while I worked and relaxed and did not do all of the things that I was planning on doing! I did see "Avatar". She came back with this creature from Busch Gardens.

Did I tell you about the ice skating rink in our neighbor's yard? Over the weekend, Laura spent a lot of time outside with the neighbors. How cool is this home made rink?
The boys are always outside skating and playing hockey. They even have a large overhead light so they can play at night and an outside overhead heater.

We just chilled for most of the weekend. She started swim lessons again too.

Valentine's

I got home early today so Laura and I got to bake some goodies for Valentine's Day. She is going to celebrate it tomorrow at school. Laura helped me make some Rice Krispies treats using strawberry flavored marshmallows.

I also made some more blackbottom cupcakes. These are so yummy. The Rice Krispies treats are kinda gross. I hope everyone has a happy Valentine's day.

Red Velvet Cupcakes

School was cancelled for Laura today because there was supposed to be a HUGE storm. I ended up taking her to work and I got out fairly early. We didn't get much of a storm and very little storm. What a waste.
Laura and I took a nice long nap and then when we woke up, we baked some red velvet cupcakes today with cream cheese frosting for one of her treats for Valentine's day. I have never been a big fan of this cake and this did not come out very red. In fact, I had to keep adding more red dye to the batter and it just turned a light pink color. Laura loved frosting and adding the cherry on top.

They were moist, light and pretty to look at but I just don't understand why people like this cake. It's just too plain and unexciting.

Weekend

Laura did this little project last week. It's called Pixos and it is really neat. We first saw it at Thomas' when she went over a few weeks ago. These are tiny beads and you can make a design on the plastic base.
She made half a blue flower and a picture of herself.

After you are done, you spritz it with water and then let it dry.
This is a few days later, it gels together.

On Sunday, we did our usual gym day. I played tennis and then took her swimming. I went into the pool today and it's such a hassle but we had a good time.
Afterwards, we came home and she finished all of her Valentine's cards for her class. It took about 3 to 4 days for her to finally write all of her classmates names on the card.

She also has another project due in several weeks. It will be 100 days that she has attended kindergarten so she has to make something with 100 things. We had made some hearts a while back using paper so I thought it would be a simple project just to string it on some yarn and make a necklace.

She started getting tired. I told her she could leave it for another time but she continued and trudged on. She did the remaining 20 on the floor with a little bit of drama.

Finally done! 100 doesn't look too impressive.

Today

I took this picture of Laura going into her school this morning. This tiny little girl with her giant neon green backpack trudging into the brown brick building. This image will be imbedded forever in my mind. Whenever I drop her off, my heart sinks a little bit. I can't believe she's growing up so fast.

Today was a half day so I picked her up at noon. One of the boys in her class was having a birthday party at the movie theater today starting at 1pm. A quick change into her regular clothes and then she and her classmates watched "The Tooth Fairy". Thank goodness that parents were not required to attend the show. I did some window shopping and had some nice alone time to myself. A giant delicious cup of coffee also helped.

Cooperation

For Laura's homework, she had to draw a picture about the word: cooperation. We talked about a few things and then she started drawing as I was making dinner. She then showed me what she drew. It was Laura and her mommy in the kitchen baking a cake!
Yes, the flat top head is me, 2 stools (those are not giant salt and pepper shakers) next to me with Laura on top of one of them, next to the kitchen island, doing some mixing. My heart got really warm and I don't know if there was a little tear in the corner of my eye but this picture made me so happy. Hmmm, are my lips really big or did she depict me screaming?
