I'm so ghetto

For dinner tonight, I made chicken curry with rice but Laura didn't really want to eat it. Instead, she ate black beans out of a can during dinner. Am I a bad mother or what? So uncouth.
So feeling rather guilty (even though black beans are sooo good for you), I took out the big guns and opened up the kimchi jar to entice her. I used a small bowl so she could rinse all the hot peppers off of it and told her that the only way to eat kimchi is to eat it with the curry rice. The gimmick worked and she ate all of her curry rice.
After she ate all of that, she then drank the kimchi water. She's got some STRONG Korean genes!

Thanksgiving weekend

We took Southwest and they don't play. They get you to your destination on time or before. I've taken it many times but not on the busiest weekend of the year and boy, I was impressed.
We left on Thanksgiving day at the crack of dawn. We made it to Hah dah buh gee's place. Here's Laura playing a tune.
Here's Ymo getting the turkey ready while the "chef" does all the cooking.
Laura kept herself busy while we were all cooking. I mean, while the "chef" was doing all the cooking.
We tried to put her down for a nap but she was too excited about eating turkey. During dinner, I made Laura sing her Turkey song that she learned from school. It's the same melody of Frere Jacques (or Brother John).
It goes like this:
Turkey dinner, turkey dinner
Gather round, gather round
Who will get the drumstick, yummy, yummy, yummy
Let's sit down, Let's sit down.
How cute it that?
After dinner, we checked into our hotel.

The weather was in the 60's on Thanksgiving day but then turned chilly for the rest of the weekend.
We visited mom's grave.
Then we went to my dad (and mom's) favorite Korean restaurant for a late lunch.
We had a good time. My reunion was fun. It was good seeing my family and spending some time together.

Nothing going on

I was sick all weekend and essentially did nothing except rest, eat a lot of soup and drink a lot of hot beverages. Therefore, no pictures and nothing exciting going on. We're all getting ready to go to Philadelphia to visit my dad and siblings for Thanksgiving and then to my *gasp* 20 year high school reunion.

Here is a video from Matthew's birthday party at that gym that I never posted. Oh, to be a child again...(well actually this child because I never got to do stuff like this when I was a kid!)

Sticky tape

Laura is infatuated with "sticky tape". After I showed her how to cut the strips with the dispenser, she has been taping everything. She had gone through 3 rolls in 2 days.

Sunday in NYC

Wake up sleepy head, it's going to be a long day.
Have some tea.
Get dressed.
Walk to the subway.
Subway's too loud. Go to Chinatown.
Eat some dimsum.
Help mommy pick out some new glasses.
Walk around.
Eat some egg custard.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I didn't take photos of our adventure to Jacques Torres' chocolate store because I was about to pass out.
Watch Ymo and mommy collapse from exhaustion.
It was a fun time. Thanks Ymo and Jim! We headed back to Boston at 8:30pm and got back home in 4 hours. Nice.

New York trip

Laura and I went to NYC for a quick weekend trip on the spur of the moment. We drove down Saturday at noon and got there in 4 hours. Here is Laura in the car being a good girl. She slept for the last couple hours of the trip.

We met up with Ymo and took the subway to a restaurant in Park Slope for her birthday dinner with 13 friends and 3 kids.

Laura loved her spagetti.

So did Maddy.
No spagetti for Theo, allergic to wheat.

It was cold walking back.

Here is Laura at Ymo's house!

Spicy Black Bean Dip

Laura loves this dip from Trader Joe's. It's got a good kick to it and has this kinda weird kimchi aftertaste. It's tasty. She eats it up even though she ends up drinking a gallon of milk with it because she has to take a sip after each bite.
Laura says: "It's spicy"

Then she helped me make an apple crisp.

I used this recipe but halved the amount of apples. I should have halved the amount of sugar for the apples but just decreased it by a quarter and it came out too sweet. However, it was still very tasty. The crust is yummy.

Sunday

Laura's dad and I went to Steppin Out last night and stayed out pretty late so today was a lazy day. Laura and I went to Trader Joe's and then hung out with the boys next door in the afternoon. It was a nice fall day. I wish we had some little girls for her to play with!
