Just yapping

On July 3 when I was about to drop off Laura at her new school, she said, out of the blue, "mommy's my best friend".
It made me cry. She said "don't cry mommy".

She has been getting a popsicle almost every day. She loves it. We've been giving her the Edy's brand which seems to be healthy with no high fructose corn syrup but she continually calls it a "pah-i-cle" or it sometimes sound like "pocle".
Tonight, I broke it down for her.
Me: say pop
Laura: Pop
Me: sicle
Laura: sicle
Me: Pop
Laura: Pop
Me: sicle
Laura: sicle
Me: Popsicle
Laura: Pocle

Forest Hills Latern Festival

Thursday, July 12, 2007
This is the 9th Annual festival which was held inside the Forest Hills Cemetery. I've never gone inside but have passed it numerous times. It's actually beautiful and a very large green space. The festival is to celebrate the memory of someone we have lost and the floating latern is apparently an asian ritual to help guide the ancestors back to the spirit world.

Some short performances during the ceremony.

Laura and Thomas spent most of their time either throwing rocks or berries in the pond.

My latern with "peace" and Laura and Thomas' art work.

The festival was nice. I would like to do it again next year but next time, with a nice picnic dinner and some wine. It's very calming, laid back (well except for the tots) and makes you reflective. I thought a lot about my mom.

Forest Hills Latern Festival

This video is not very exciting but you have to realize that that was not our blanket. It was the blanket next to us. I tried to get them off these strangers' blanket but these tots would not get off. One of them finally said "Oh, that's ok" which was a BIG mistake. I let them have their fun and they continued this dancing/wrestling/jumping for a good 20 minutes.

July 4th

Lots of activity for the 4th. Laura got to see Thomas in the morning so that I could go to work. We baked chocolate chip cookies, did a glue project then went to Leila's house for a bbq bash with swimming in frigid waters. We were too exhausted to watch the fireworks this year plus it rained all night.

Swim Laura swim!

Southwick's Zoo in Mendon,MA
We spent the day with Thomas' clan at the zoo.

The petting zoo
Giraffes. Laura said "Look at the zebras!"

The fake camel

The REAL camel
The Deer Park
Laura said "I don't like Bambi"!

There were random acts of hugging and holding hands. I think it's getting serious. Then they ran off together (it was the third time)!!!
The rest of the afternoon was spent on kiddie rides. They were in toddler heaven.
They had to wait for the Moon Bounce ride. All the other kids were civil and obedient. When time was up, the man would say "1 minute" and then after that minute, "ok, time to get out". All the kids prior to Laura and Thomas left with no problems. These two almost had to be pulled out because they wouldn't get out! At least they got a few extra minutes on this one.
After the trip, we all had sushi for dinner. A great day.
